When it feels like you're standing still (but you're not)Have you ever felt stuck in place, making no progress at all? I woke up feeling that way today. Then I opened my Weekly Wins doc and realized just how far I've actually come. This simple practice has completely changed how I see my growth, and I think it might help you too. Think about yourself one year ago. What were you doing on May 7, 2024? (Or what about five years ago, May 7, 2020, when we were a couple of months into the pandemic?) In the last year, you might have had: School ending. Fourth of July or Canada Day. Summer vacations. School starting. Halloween and Thanksgiving and falling leaves. Winter holidays and gifts and the new year. And now springtime, flowers, (pollen), and hopefully nicer weather. Full circle to school ending again in a month or so. Especially when my boys were little, this quote stuck with me:
The days are long but the years are short.
Think how far you've come since then. Last year I had just moved out of my old apartment in a bad part of town with people doing meth under my front stairs. Now I absolutely love my apartment with a view of trees and mountains. Within even the last few weeks, I've gained amazing clarity about how I want to serve people and what I want to offer. Without my weekly wins tracker, I might have missed these victories. Instead, they're documented proof that I'm moving forward, even when it doesn't feel like it. So even though today I'm tired and feeling like everything's hard, I can look back at my wins and know this feeling is temporary. I've made more progress than I realize. I've set yearly goals, broken down into quarterly goals and monthly tasks. (And hopefully soon I'll plan things into two-week sprints.) But in the meantime, I just do a little task here and a little task there, and those small wins add up to remarkable progress over time. Task: Write Down Your Weekly WinsStart a doc. Call it "Weekly Wins and Look-aheads." Or use a journal, physical or digital. Just something to write down little wins, in life and business. Some examples from my own tracker recently:
If you ever get tired or down, you have something tangible to refer to so you can see how far you've come. Weekly wins is also a great practice if you have a 9-5 job. My team's weekly meeting is on Friday mid-morning. We summarize this week's wins, individually and as a team, and then look ahead to next week. That way we know what's going on, we can forget about work over the weekend, and when we come back on Monday we know exactly what needs to be done. AND...it makes it soooooooooo much easier to write your yearly evaluation when you have all your accomplishments in one place. Future you will thank current you. Free Offer: Coffee ChatLast week I had three coffee chats with three amazing humans, and I have a few more scheduled in the coming weeks. It's been wonderful. They've given me ideas and inspiration, I've given them ideas and inspiration, and it's so nice to be able to geek out about our businesses. I'd love to have a coffee chat with you. No sales, just human connection. What's on your mind? We could even brainstorm what kinds of wins you want to be tracking! Feel free to schedule one at http://calendly.com/technicallyeclectic/30min (feel free to ignore the questions about what you want to organize...I haven't prioritized making a coffee chat meeting type yet.) Paid Offer: Pitch Me Your ProjectThis one's so new it's not even on my Everything page yet! Basically, how can I help you and your business create more wins? Maybe you're stuck on something technical, need help organizing your digital life, or want fresh ideas to move your business forward. This is your free-form request where you get to describe what you'd like help with and what budget you're working with. https://airtable.com/app5lnTgQsMgBG1gT/pagpTVnAzShNHUAlX/form SUMMARY:
